Building a Record Corner: Choosing a Solid Wood Record Player Stand

October 22, 2026

Quick answer: Pick a stand about 24–30 inches high so the platter sits near hand height, with LP cubbies at least 13 inches tall and deep. A solid, heavy top damps vibration; keep speakers off the same surface as the turntable if you can.

Record stands

A record player stand keeps the turntable at the right height.

Vinyl cabinets

A vanity stores a growing collection.

Listening chair

A sculptural accent chair makes the corner complete.

Shelf for sleeves

A floating shelf displays favorite album covers.

Setting up the listening corner step by step

A record corner works best when the turntable, records and seat feel like one small room inside the room. Before you order anything, sketch where each piece goes:

Choose an inside wall so the stand is not on a floor that bounces near a doorway.
Level the stand itself first — a turntable on a tilted surface wears the stylus unevenly.
Store records upright, never stacked flat, and keep them out of direct afternoon sun.
Place the chair six to eight feet from the speakers so the sound meets in front of you.

How many records will it hold?

A rough rule: one running foot of shelf holds about 60–70 LPs in sleeves. A collection of 300 records needs around five feet of cubby space, so plan for growth if you are still buying.

Caring for the wood around your vinyl

Dust is the enemy of both records and oiled wood. A soft microfiber cloth once a week keeps the top clean, and a dust cover on the turntable protects the platter. Avoid placing a hot amplifier directly on the wood without feet underneath. Our open-frame record player stand and the live edge record stand are both vintage-inspired designs built new in solid wood — not salvaged pieces — so the dimensions are listed and dependable.
